Exalted Ruler's Report

Hello everyone,
As I begin this year as your newly elected Exalted Ruler, I look forward to working with you and building upon the good works accomplished by our Lodge in the past.
I want to first reflect a bit on the month of April…..starting with our annual Easter Egg hunt. Kathleen Barrett and our Antlers organized this event and the turnout was fantastic. The children were divided into age groups and were so excited to find the eggs, filled with various goodies including a few containing something special, winning that child a chocolate bunny! The Antlers also served hot dogs and soft drinks. Also in April, we held our Annual Fish Fry on Good Friday. John Barrett organized the entire event including the many volunteers needed in the kitchen, the servers, our Antlers, also serving and clearing the tables for the record turnout. In addition, a very special thank-youto boat captain Pete Dolan and his crew, the Viking Village staff and of course the Larson family donating the seafood. We set a new record, selling close to a THOUSAND dinners. All proceeds will support Elks Camp Moore, supporting our Special Children.

In recognition of the collective effort to make our Annual Fish Fry a huge success, our “Elk of the Month” goes to both Pete Dolan and John Barrett.

Last but not least, our PER Association held a very special Memorial Service on April 30th in remembrance of our first ER, Harold Spedding, where we officially named our hall the “Harold Spedding Hall” with a wall plaque and Harold’s ER picture proudly displayed for all to see. Harold’s family attended this memorable service and was very appreciative that more than 50 years later, Harold’s legacy will continue forever. After the memorial service, the PER Association held our annual Chowder cook-off. Tremendous accomplishment by everyone….Thank-you!

Upcoming in May/June we have numerous events and activities planned…. In May, our annual Mother’s Day Elks’ service is scheduled. The Southern Regional High School will hold their annual “Field of Flags” display and Memorial Day service, in remembrance of our Armed Forces who lost their lives during active duty. Our Membership Committee has scheduled the next New Member initiation. At the district/state level, our Drug Awareness Committee has planned a “Walk-out on Drugs”. The SCC Committee is planning another “Carnival of Fun” for our special children. Last year’s winning BOCCE team (Veterans Committee) will participate again in the Mash Picnic /BOCCE tournament.

In June, the NJ State Elks’ convention will be in Wildwood, NJ. Our Convention Committee is very busy organizing the many details. Again this year, we are sharing the Waikiki Oceanfront Inn and hospitality with the Manasquan Lodge. Our Americanism committee has planned our annual Flag Day Ceremony, followed by Cheeseburgers in Paradise. Our Veterans Committee has planned another fishing trip for community Veterans. Our SCC Committee will hold our annual Special Children’s summer picnic. The Motorcycle Committee will host another Rides & Rods day open to the public. At the district/state level, our ENF Committee has planned an ENF Pot-Luck dinner fund raiser

Fraternally,
Dan Boesman, ER
